Viocorp’s Intelligent Media Platform and the Digital Consumer Experience.

Viocorp launched its Voila product suite at the recent NAB show in Las Vegas. Exhibiting as part of the Accenture stand at NAB, Viocorp execs Ian Gardiner, Christian Budden and Rachel Dixon demonstrated the advanced content and advertising targeting functionality in the Voila system.

Voila is a sophisticated end to end solution for targeting around user behaviour and metadata. The fully integrated system is designed to support intelligent content recommendations and adaptive targeting. Unlike many other recommendations engines that require viewers to input lots of data, Voila adapts to user behaviour, using a combination of rules based on:

  • Viewer favourites and ratings
  • Related content by tag
  • Related content by keyword
  • Related content by cast member
  • Related content by genre
  • Related content by channel
  • Related content by series
  • Related content weighted to include friends' ratings
  • Related content weighted to include friends' preferences
  • Featured content as defined by the system administrator/editorial team
  • Language preferences of the viewer
  • Demographic information (where available)

The weighting of all these elements is managed by a sophisticated set of algorithms built into the system.

All of these advanced targeting features are currently being deployed for a large broadcasting client in Asia. Viocorp illustrated the functionality in conjunction with some rich user interface development it has been developing around multi-device publishing. Using Voila, publishers can administer the content once, and publish it to multiple devices including PC, smartphone and LCD/Plasma. Viewers can get a consistent experience across all their devices.
